Whether it’s a good watch or bad watch depends on the make, model, design, and technical merits. But then there are some replica watches which are much more than little mechanical keepers of time – this is one such watch. This particular little Omega, with its well-worn dial, belonged to one of the most famous men of the 20th century and someone who left an indelible mark on popular culture.
Let’s take a glance at this watch’s history before getting into the watch itself. Elvis was presented with this special Omega at in February 1961 at a ceremony celebrating him hitting the 75 million records sold mark – something never done before. Instead of something like a stock-standard Datejust or Seamaster, the folks at RCA records determined to get the King something a little more special, opting for this Omega replica with a Tiffany-signed dial and 44 brilliant cut diamonds in the bezel. In the subsequent years, Elvis would be photographed several times wearing the fake watch, both on and off stage. If you want to know more, check out our original story about this watch from when Phillips first announced it was coming up for sale.
Therefore, what’s it like holding a watch that was gifted to Elvis more than half a century ago? It’s awesome. Did you really think I was going to have a different reaction? One of the things that make vintage replica watches so interesting to me is this way in which they act as tiny time machines, if you’ll excuse the pun. You put one on your wrist and look down to check the time and you’re instantly transported back to the moments in the past when another person did the exact same thing. They wound the same crown, did the same double-take because they glanced too quickly, and nervously chewed their lip as the same hands seemed to move either too slowly or too quickly.
Supporting the historical provenance of this watch is the deep engraving on the case-back. Perpendicular to the “18k Gold” stamped between the top lugs you’ll find “To Elvis / 75 Million Records / RCA Victor / 12-25-60” in sharp relief. You’ll notice this date is several months before the watch was given to Elvis, as it notes the date he’s believed to have officially passed the 75 million record mark, Christmas Day 1960. There’s something really old-school about the execution of the engraving, with letters varying in size a bit and not being so wonderful around the edges. Today, you’d get something done by machine, but this was clearly done by hand.
It is just flat-out awesome on the wrist. It definitely has more diamonds than I typically wear, but it doesn’t read as feminine or dainty at all, even with the 32.5mm case. It doesn’t look small on the wrist above, does it? There’s something very glamorous and rock-star about it, maybe because of the size of the diamonds. They feel sized to the width of the bezel and the size of the watch, rather than having been thought about independently and been made to work regardless. The Tiffany stamp balances beautifully with the replica Omega logo and signature too. Eventually, one of my favorite things about this replica watch is how it shows its age. There are some scratches in the running seconds sub-dial at six o’clock, the dial has some other markings, and the case isn’t crazy shiny. It feels like a worn watch that you might find at an estate sale, not something that’s been treated like a relica.
The fake Omega’s updated Seamaster Diver 300M is one of the strongest new high-end wristwatch product offerings for 2018. Initially released during the Jean-Claude Biver-era of Omega in 1993, the Seamaster is today a truly iconic model for Omega. At the time in the early 1900s it was meant to reassert Omega’s relevance but also distinctive design ethos. As a matter of fact, the Seamaster 300M should not look like the Rolex Submariner – which at the time dozens and dozens of fake watches did indeed look like. The replica Omega intends to be more than just like Rolex, it wanted to be something totally different and outstanding in its approach to a late 20th century luxury timepiece.
It is crucial to talk about the original Seamaster 300M design because the new for 2018 updated models celebrate those core values and aesthetics that made the original so popular. 2018 isn’t the same as 1993 for the watch industry, but 25 years later, I have to say one can agree that modern watch tastes haven’t actually changed that much. I would debate that the modern era of luxury watches clearly began in the 1990s.
One of the most iconic design elements of the Omega Seamaster 300M is the manual helium release valve located at 10 o’clock on the case. I can’t say why the fake Omega chose for a manual versus automatic helium release valve at a time when automatic valves were easy to design.
However, I am not sure but I believe that Omega has been continually producing at least some form of the Seamaster 300M for the last 25 years. Don’t forget that Omega even added a few dive watch lines to the Seamaster collection over the years including the dressier Seamaster Planet Ocean, and the vintage-style Seamaster 300.
As far as I am concerned, the Seamaster 300M dial with its distinctive hands and hour markers is a design that has aged well. I do admit that when I first learned about the design long ago it didn’t do much for me. It took years of looking at other sport watch dials to appreciate that Omega made something with the enduring power of a Submariner – but with a more contemporary and active feel to it.
Everything about the Seamaster 300M is new for 2018 and for the target of this article I am going to focus on the steel (or mostly steel models). The replica Omega did however produce a fair number of two-tone steel and 18k Sedna (rose) or yellow gold models. Those two-tone Seamaster 300M models are truly lovely, but they include a rather steep price increase that takes a lot out of the really high value-proposition fun of the entirely steel Seamaster 300M models.
To ensure the correction of all the details of the 2018 Seamaster 300M watches, let’s start by looking at the movement. It goes without saying that Omega has included the Seamaster 300M into its family of Master Chronometer watches, which means it includes an in-house made METAS certified “Co-Axial Master Chronometer” movement. Besides, Omega also shows us that new rules saying that replica watches should have luminous points at all 12 hour markers.
From the “Fratello Friday” archives, we present this post focusing on three iconic Omega watches. Of course, many models from this brand could be considered iconic, but for the purposes of this list, I narrowed it down to three Omega watches that I consider most important to the brand or to the world of watches in general.
1. Omega Speedmaster Professional
I can’t think of an Omega Replica Speedmaster Watches that better fits the definition of an icon than the so-called “Moonwatch.” There are so many variations of it that we cover it weekly on Fratellowatches.com with our “Speedy Tuesday” posts. In the end, it doesn’t really matter which Speedmaster Professional you own, have on your wish list or are about to purchase: they are all great, classical timepieces, starting with the very first one in 1957 to the modern models; a piece of history on the wrist, so to speak. If you want to learn more about this model and its variations, I urge you to pay Fratellowatches.com a visit.
2. Omega Constellation Grand Luxe
Once the flagship of the Omega brand, the Omega Replica Constellation is a much-praised and beloved watch among collectors of vintage Omega watches. Even though the Constellation was already considered to be a luxury timepiece, the Grand Luxe editions were considered to be the most high-end model in the collection. The brick-like designed bracelet of the Constellation Grand Luxe inspired the bracelets later used on the De Ville Co-Axial models. These models were available in gold and platinum. In the 1970s, the Constellation models started to “drift” a bit in the area of design, and the collection was re-designed and reintroduced in 1982 as the Constellation “Manhattan,” with the famous “claws” that pressed on the sapphire crystal. Aesthetically, these models have little in common with those very first 1950s and 1960s Constellation watches.
3. Omega Seamaster Ploprof
The Seamaster Plongeur Professional, better known by the abbreviation “PloProf,” was developed by Omega Replica Seamaster in the late 1960s in close cooperation with the COMEX company and the famous ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. Designed and developed solely for professional use, this watch was introduced on the market in 1971. Water-resistant to 600 meters and with a monobloc case construction, this watch was (and still is) huge. It featured a large, red button that was used as a safety lock for the bezel. The crown system was also an interesting part of the watch, using a crown-locking nut. In 2009, Omega introduced a re-edition of this famous model with a water resistance of 1,200 meters and featuring its in-house-developed Caliber 8500 movement (I wrote a review on it here). Like the very first Seamaster PloProf in 1971, this isn’t a watch that sells as well as other Omega watches do, but this has mainly to do with its unconventional dimensions.
Omega replica made a splash this year with the return of its iconic diver. Nicknamed the “Ploprof” (the first letters of plongeur professionnel – the French words meaning “professional diver”) it is one of the most rugged, robust and seaworthy divers’ wristwatches ever manufactured.
Inspired by the Seamaster Professional 600, a diving instrument made by Omega in the 1970s, the Seamaster Ploprof 1200M is a rather odd-looking contraption. You either love it or you hate it, but those who make up the former group vow a cult-like devotion to it. And that’s because it’s one of the most reliable divers on the market. Next to it, most diving replica Omega watches look like pretenders.
As its names suggests the Seamaster Ploprof 1200M is water resistant to an astounding 120 bar (1200 meters / 4000 feet), and every feature has been engineered to make it the perfect underwater companion. The dial is simple, the hands oversized and superlumed to increase its legibility.
The large pusher on the case at 2 o’clock releases the bezel, in order to be able to set and measure the amount of time spent underwater, while the large crown-guard placed at 9 o’clock ensures maximum protection. While the bodywork they create is unusual, these components are vital for divers.
The new Omega Replica Railmaster watches are made out of titanium, making this rather bulky watch incredibly light on the wrist. Although we doubt that will be the main concern for divers about to strap a weight belts to become negatively buoyant.
Under the water, very few watches are as recognizable as the Seamaster Ploprof 1200M. Omega have created four different variations, our favorite being the one with a blue dial as cool as the water on the coast of England, on a winter’s day.
Unfortunately, under the sea is where you’re most likely to see the fake Omega watches. Compared to the rest of the Omega collection presented at Baselworld, we’re sorry to say it really did look like a fish out of water.
However, that didn’t stop us from admiring its new movement. This year’s Ploprof introduces in-house made caliber 8912, an automatic movement that has gone through the brand’s new double certification. Visible through the caseback, it’s a breathtaking achievement. Hopefully the watch owner surfaces before admiring it.
The Replica Omega Seamaster Ploprof 1200M Co-Axial Master Chronometer is not for everyone, but it knows its public better than the competition. The model with a blue dial and 18k Sedna gold crown and bezel is priced at $ 18,000.
Being a WIS (Watch Idiot Savant) means that everywhere you go, the first thing you recognize is the Omega Replica Ladymatic Watches someone is wearing. Let that be the doctor, the cashier, teacher, banker, people on TV or even your new colleague. I remember a few years ago when I was deeply into the various watch communities, every once in a while there was a thread from a forum member who spotted a watch in a movie or TV show. There is even a cool website dedicated to watches in movies, titled, well what else; watches in movies.
Our readers might remember that not too long ago, I already did a write-up on the nice Speedy that Colin Firth’s character wore in the movie “Before I Go to Sleep”. Well, we did not have to wait too long for the next watch and reference. Again it is an Omega and it does appears in one of the funniest scenes of this movie called “The Gambler”. The main character, played by Mark Whalberg, even explicitly mentions the cheap Omega Replica Seamaster Watches in this scene. He says: “It’s an Omega, it’s worth more than 6 thousand brand new”.
Now, it is not exactly clear what reference it is and as far as I remember there are no other scenes where the watch is visible. But judging by the screen captures it is a black dial chronograph with white hands on stainless steel bracelet, it seems we have another Speedmaster sighting. I am torn between the Speedmaster Pro and the Speedmaster Co-Axial 44.25mm. The watch appears to be rather large and has a black bezel but the bracelet has no middle shiny parts which does not correspond to any of Omega’s current Speedmaster collection. Only the re-edition of the Mark II has a bracelet without shiny parts though. Of course, the movie was shot in 2014 so it could have been a different model or even a put-together. Go watch the movie, have a look at the Replica Omega Speedmaster watch and share your thoughts below in the comments section.
Omega has produced numerous iconic timepieces over the years, including perhaps the world’s most famous chronograph, known around the world as the Omega Moonwatch. Here are five models that are in stores now at accessible prices for both new and seasoned collectors.
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
Launched in 1957, the Speedmaster is synonymous with spaceflight and adventure. Like most great icons, the design has changed little across the decades, meaning that today, the Moonwatch is recognized the world over. It features a distinctive black dial covered by a hesalite crystal with trademark thin hour and minute hands, a small seconds subdial, 30-minute and 12-hour recorders, and a characteristic central chronograph seconds hand. The black bezel, with its tachymeter scale, is mounted on a 42-mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant to 50 meters.
At the heart of this chronograph is Omega’s mechanical caliber 1861. Though this hand-wound movement has been upgraded several times over the years, it remains essentially the same as the one that powered the timepieces that accompanied NASA astronauts on six trips to the moon.
The Moonwatch is available on a strap or a bracelet. Each watch is offered with a special presentation box that includes two additional straps – a “NATO” strap and a black Velcro strap. Also included are a tool to change the straps, a Speedmaster loupe, and a book highlighting the adventures of the Speedmaster.
The Replica Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is priced from $4,500, making it a very good value among new chronographs.
Omega Constellation Co-Axial
Omega launched the Constellation family in 1952, though in the United States, the collection was originally known by the name Globemaster, due to a trademark conflict that was resolved in 1956.
The dome of the Geneva Observatory served as the family crest, as Omega had just broken its own precision timekeeping record there the prior year. The cupola was surrounded by eight stars representing Omega’s greatest chronometric achievements at the world’s observatories, including the 1931 “clean sweep” at the Observatory of Geneva in which Omega broke the record for precision in every category.
In 1982, Omega launched the Constellation “Manhattan.” This watch introduced the four now-familiar “griffes,” or claws at 3 and 9 o’clock, which originally held the sapphire crystal in place and helped ensure the watch remained waterproof.
In 2007, Omega introduced its proprietary Co-Axial calibers with new and unique escapements offering less friction, greater mechanical efficiency, and excellent chronometric performance over time. The performance of the new escapement is such that each Omega timepiece fitted with a Co-Axial caliber is a COSC-certified chronometer delivered with a full four-year warranty, which is one of the best in the business for a mechanical timepiece. The exclusive movement is housed in a 38 mm case with a sapphire caseback and 100-meter water resistance.
Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Master Co-Axial
The Seamaster Aqua Terra is a robust timepiece with clean, distinctive lines. The dials of the Aqua Terra 150 M collection recall the beautiful wooden decks found on the finest luxury sailboats. The example shown below features a lacquered silver dial decorated with the Teak Concept pattern. The 18k gold seconds hand is complimented by deep blue, faceted hour and minute hands.
The stainless steel 41.5-mm case holds the best feature: an Omega Master Co-Axial caliber 8500 COSC-certified chronometer movement which is specially manufactured to resistant magnetic fields greater than 15,000 gauss. Unlike most antimagnetic watches, the Aqua Terra’s movement can be viewed through a transparent caseback.
Several brands offer mechanical watches with movements protected by antimagnetic inner cases. Omega Replica Seamaster improves on that design by fashioning key movement components from non-ferrous materials, making the movement itself impervious to magnetic fields. This feature is especially important today, as we encounter magnets more than ever, from smartphone and tablet cases to briefcase closures and refrigerator doors.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M Co-Axial 42 mm
Omega is at least as well known for performance under the seas as it is for performance in space, and indeed, the brand was a pioneer in both realms. In 1932, Omega launched the Marine, recognized by many as the first watch designed from the ground up (or from the surface down) to be used on deep dives. Since those early days, Omega timepieces have accompanied many explorers on their journeys into the deep. Marine biologist and explorer William Beebe wore an Omega Marine during his record-breaking bathysphere dives, as did Commander Yves Le Prieur, the inventor of Scuba. Jacques Cousteau famously wore an Omega Seamaster PloProf, and Jacques Mayol – the renowned freediver known as The Dolphin Man – also sported an Omega Seamaster on his record-setting dives.
In 2005, Omega expanded its maritime legacy with the launch of the Planet Ocean line. The stylish Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 M pays homage to Omega’s dive watch heritage. This model features a black ceramic unidirectional rotating dive bezel mounted on a 42-mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant to 600 meters or 2,000 feet. The helium-escape valve is the mark of a true professional dive instrument.
Inside the case, yet visible through the sapphire caseback, beats the self-winding Omega Co-Axial caliber 8500 COSC-certified chronometer movement. The free-sprung balance and twin mainspring barrels contribute to the chronometric precision and distinguish this caliber from those found in many other dive watches.
Omega De Ville Prestige
Even hardened adventurers must occasionally don a dress watch, and here again, Omega offers a time-honored selection. The Omega Replica De Ville Prestige collection is characterized by pure, classic styling and a luxurious appearance that is never out of fashion. The model shown below features a 39.5-mm stainless steel case with a striking two-zone, sun-brushed blue dial protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The case offers 30-meter water resistance.
At the heart of this timepiece is the automatic-winding Co-Axial caliber 2500. This is the movement in which the Co-Axial escapement debuted on the world stage in 1999, conferring upon the caliber enduring historical significance.
A supporter of the Omega replica watches sale charity event, organised by the “Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies” (Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy) since 2005, Omega is unveiling a Classic Fusion created in partnership with Brazilian artist Romero Britto. This timepiece, created for the 6th edition of the Only Watch auction, stands apart from the other models as it is being auctioned along with the canvas that inspired it. A first!
This is a watch that embodies the full innovative capacity of the Omega Manufacture by fusing art and crafts. The Classic Fusion Only Watch Britto combines the traditional art of enamelling with the contemporary pop art and cubism of Brazilian artist Romero Britto.
On the dial, the master dial-maker, guided by the vibrantly coloured work of art by Britto, reproduces the lines of the design at the correct scale. Then, the white gold dial is struck to prepare it for the Replica Omega Classic champlevé enamelling. Finally, the enameller applies thin layers of the powder enamel to the piece, adding the 6 opaque colours from the 250 shades in his palette one by one. The paint is fixed to the dial through successive firings at a temperature of approx. 800°C. Britto’s iconic designs are brought out perfectly by the meticulously applied champlevé enamel. In creating this dial, the real challenge was to transcribe in miniature all the harmony and energy of Britto’s work.
The end result is this unique piece, which finely demonstrates the principle of fusion between tradition and modernity, between craftsmanship and 21st Century innovation.
From 23rd September, the Omega replica watches 2015 travelling exhibition of watches will complete a world tour before the auction in Geneva on Saturday 7th November. All of the money raised will be donated to fund medical research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a debilitating neuromuscular disease.
In 2013, Omega Replica Seamaster unveiled an upgrade of the original Speedmaster of 1957. With its Co-Axial movement and classic design, the watch was an instant hit as it combined the best of both aesthetics and mechanics. This year, the brand has revisited the timepieces and created a new model that, while boasting several updated features, remains loyal to the style of the watch that has continued to be an icon in the industry for more than half a century.
The 41.5 mm stainless steel Speedmaster ’57 has a polished and brushed casebody that is complemented by its brushed bezel, which features the tachymeter scale that is at once associated with the chronographs in this legendary watch family. Protected by a box-form scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a black dial with white and beige transferred dial indications. Distinguishing this model from its 2013 counterpart are the recessed hour markers that are partially filled with “vintage“ Super-LumiNova that emits a green light.
Another design element that sets this timepiece apart from its latest predecessor but creates a tighter link to the Omega Replica Speedmaster original Speedmaster is the look of the hands. The polished facetted rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands have been created in the “Broad Arrow” style and are coated with Super-LumiNova. Alpha-shaped hands can be found in the small 60-minute and 12-hour recorder at 3 o’clock and the small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock.
This inspired timepiece is presented on either a brown leather strap with a polished and brushed stainless steel foldover clasp or OMEGA’s patented brushed and polished stainless steel screw-and-pin bracelet with a butterfly clasp. The Omega Replica Constellation Co-Axial calibre 9300 is visible through the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal caseback. The reliability and accuracy of this extraordinary mechanical movement is such that the Speedmaster ’57 is offered with a full four-year warranty. As with all the timepieces in the Speedmaster family, this watch is water resistant to 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet).
With its sight set on the stars ever since it became the first Omega replica watches brand to step onto the moon, Omega continues to celebrate space exploration with the launch of the vintage-inspired Globemaster.
After resurfacing the very retro Seamaster Ploprof 1200M and celebrating the 1970 Apollo 13 mission with a Snopy Award watch, the brand is now introducing an elegant wrist replica watches that looks like it could have been picked up from the auction block. In a good way.
The 39-mm Replica Omega Globemaster harkens back to historic models by featuring the iconic pie-pan dial made famous by the Constellation models in 1952. Surrounding the dial and its central hour, minute, seconds hands, and date, is a fluted bezel. It’s a timeless design, and it looks brilliant on the wrist. But don’t be fooled. The Omega Globemaster represents the brand’s most advanced mechanical movement in its history.
In addition to having an independent lab measuring the performance of the watch in typical daily conditions (COSC), the new Omega Replica Globemaster also undergoes rigorous tests to ensure it functions properly when exposed to strong magnetic fields.
Omega’s reverence for precise performance is captured on the caseback, where an etching of an observatory cupola symbolizes Omega’s success in precision competitions from the last century, as well as its desire to reach new heights and explore uncharted territory in the field of mechanics.
The Omega Replica Globemaster is available in steel and yellow gold, as well as the brand developped Segna gold, and comes presented on a bracelet or leather strap, with prices starting around $7,700.
A few years ago, introduced a retro-styled version of its well-known Speedmaster chronograph watch, the Omega Replica Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial Chronograph, named for the year of the first Speedmaster’s release and featuring that original model’s straight lugs that extend from the case and its familiar bracelet.
The 56-year-old Omega Speedmaster is known as the “moonwatch” by collectors because of its unique role as the wristwatch worn by NASA astronauts for all six lunar landings, even though the watch itself was developed more than a decade before human beings set foot on the moon. The Speedmaster ’57 adds several modern touches that distinguish it both aesthetically and technologically from its predecessor. The movement is Omega Replica Ladymatic‘s co-axial Calibers 9300 (in the steel, titanium and two-tone steel/gold versions) and 9301 (in the 18k gold versions), which has a column-wheel chronograph incorporating both the 12-hour and 60-minute counter hands onto a single subdial.
This arrangement means that the chronograph hours and minutes can be read together intuitively, much like the hours and minutes on the main dial. It also allows for a modern redesign of the Speedmaster’s old tricompax dial design: there are now two subdials rather than three, with hours and minutes at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. The date window occupies a window at 6 o’clock, while a center-mounted hand tallies chronograph seconds. Another hallmark of the movement’s design is that the two chronograph pushers function independently of each other, so there is not risk of inadvertently operating the chronograph mechanism. The brushed bezel displays the model’s traditional tachymeter scale. The 41.5-mm case is water-resistant to 100 meters.
Calibers 9300/9301 are also notable for their balance springs, which are etched from a wafer of non-magnetic silicon. According to Replica Omega Seamaster, these silicon balance springs help to deliver improved chronometric performance, and the company is so confident of this that it offers a full four-year warranty on each watch. The two movements, both of which boast Omega’s hallmark co-axial escapement, differ only in their level of decoration: Caliber 9301, which powers the gold models of the Speedmaster ’57, has a “luxury finish” that includes an 18k gold rotor and balance bridge.
Several variations of this vintage-styled timepiece are available, including models in both a yellow-gold or rose gold case. Each comes on either a matching bracelet or a leather strap — black for the rose-gold watch, brown for the yellow-gold, and each is offered with a black or silvery-white dial. The indices on both models are made of gold and coated with Super-LumiNova. Another version, in lightweight grade 5 titanium, has a white dial and blued hands and is available on a titanium bracelet or leather strap. There are also stainless steel Speedmaster ’57 models with a range of dial choices including black or blue PVD with rhodium-plated indices and silver-colored with gold applied indices. These models are also available on brown leather straps or steel bracelets. The bi-color steel and 18k gold versions (pictured, above and below) offer either a silvery-colored or black dial, paired with either a leather strap or a gold-and-steel two-tone bracelet.
